The objective of this infographic project is to collect and display open and closed Wi-Fi networks, their type of security, if any, and the ownership of these networks. Data was be collected around the Staten Island Mall in Staten Island, New York. This location has a mix of residential and commercial properties, making it a great location to survey. Data was recorded through a method called “War Driving”. War Driving is the act of searching for wireless networks from inside a moving vehicle, using a portable computer, smartphone or personal digital assistant.
Approximately two thousand networks were sampled.
